Greater Derry-Salem Regional Coordinating Council for Community Transportation

The Greater Derry-Salem Regional Coordinating Council for Community Transportation (RCC) is a coalition of organizations with a shared goal of expanding affordable and efficient community transportation in 10 communities in the Greater Derry-Salem area of western Rockingham County, including Atkinson, Chester, Danville, Derry, Hampstead, Londonderry, Plaistow, Salem, Sandown and Windham. RCC membership is open to organizations, government units and citizens in those communities.

The Greater Derry-Salem RCC is one of 10 such regional transit coordination initiatives being developed around the state to encourage better coordination of human service transportation and general public transit. Each RCC consists of transportation provider agencies (both public and private), agencies purchasing rides or otherwise contributing funding, consumers and other stakeholders. Membership of the RCC include the following:

  1. Easter Seals of NH, Special Transit Service
  2. Greater Derry-Salem CART
  3. Greater Salem Caregivers
  4. Lamprey Healthcare Senior Transportation
  5. Rockingham Nutrition/Meal on Wheels
  6. Rockingham Planning Commission
  7. Southern NH Planning Commission
  8. Town of Derry
  9. Town of Hampstead
  10. Citizen Member

The intent of this coordination is three-fold: 1) jointly identifying needs and priorities for investing limited available dollars for community transportation in the region; 2) better optimizing use of existing resources such as vehicles and agency staff time; and 3) using these resources to leverage additional federal transit funding available to region but currently untapped for lack of non-federal matching funding.

In the Greater Derry-Salem region this effort builds on the Coordinated Public Transit/Human Services Transportation Plan for the region. Updated most recently in 2016, this planning process involved more than two dozen organizations in the region -- transportation providers, human service agencies, healthcare providers and municipalities - in inventorying existing transportation services, assessing transit need and developing recommendations for expanding transportation access.
